Books
There are many books covering the essentials of sailing – what else would sailors do during the week, other than write or read about their favourite pass-time if they can’t sail? A quick search on Amazon for Catamaran books will list several decent books in the £10 to £15 price range. They cover basic techniques through to racing skills. This web editor still refers to the ‘basics’ after several years.
Schools
Formal tuition is provided by the RYA, with dinghy sailing available locally at West Kirby and catamaran sailing at Menai.
Websites
Searching the web for sailing related terms, such as ‘Sailing Basics’ or ‘Sailing Hints’ will provide a wealth of information, such as the Yachts and Yachting Sailing Basics article.
Adult Training at DSC
Anyone who has a boat, or is considering getting a boat, will be warmly welcomed at the Club, whether you already know how to use it or not! We recognise that everyone has to start somewhere and may need some help along the way. Members are always willing to offer help and advice that will enable you to get on the water. One to one training can be given on an informal basis to suit your needs (for dinghies and catamarans). We run a series of Saturday Cruising days (see the Sailing Programme), which are aimed at casual sailing and training, with rescue cover provided. This is the ideal opportunity to spend some time with an experienced sailor to show you the ropes. We’re happy to work with you on any topic from rigging your boat, basic sailing skills, through to racing techniques.
